LABOEcholocation: Typical Lasiurine pattern of oscillating calls, curvilinear fish hook shape fluctuating minimum frequency (~35-40K). Due to the similarity of their echolocations calls, files characteristic of these species were combined and identified as LASEBO. Some calls can be confused with NYHU Florida Distribution: northern two thirds of peninsula. Roosting Behavior: Solitary. Often hang from foliage of deciduous trees mimicking dead leaves Foraging Behavior: Often emerges early in the evening. Mostly moths. Also beetles, leaf & plant hoppers, ants and flies Reproduction: Mate in fall, 1-4 pups born late May - mid June. In FL, pups & adults with pups often found grounded June & July. Management and Conservation Recommendations: Education programs aimed at the public as well as preservation of forested lands particularly deciduous forests & oak hammocks with an abundance of Spanish moss will help protect these and other bat species. |

Long fur, with frosted appearance. Tail membrane completely furred above. White markings on shoulders & wrists. color ranges from bright orange - yellow-brown. Males much brighter than females. Female LABO & LASE sometimes confused LABO is brighter red with lighter tail and wing membranes. Lasiurus is the only bat genus with four nipples |
